A group of influential German tour operators visited Kerry and the South West over the weekend, as part of a fact-finding trip to showcase the excellent tourism product that this part of Ireland has to offer.
Given that travel agents and tour operators continue to be the main booking channel for German holidaymakers, a key element of Tourism Ireland’s strategy is to work with the travel trade – both online and offline – in Germany, highlighting Kerry and the island of Ireland as a ‘stand-out’ destination with those influential travel trade contacts.
The tour operators’ itinerary, which was designed by Fáilte Ireland, included a stay in Kenmare at The Lodge Guesthouse, as well as a fun Irish whiskey tasting with John Moriarty at the Park Hotel. They also enjoyed a stop in Killarney and a guided tour of Muckross House and gardens.
Barbara Wood, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Central Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to bring these influential decision-makers to Kerry and the South West, so they can experience for themselves the high standard of the tourism product on offer in this part of Ireland and will be in a better position to sell more effectively when they return home and advise their clients to consider Kerry for their next holiday destination.
“Germany is the world’s largest outbound travel market and the third-largest source of visitors for the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland has an exceptionally strong promotional programme in place for 2010, providing compelling reasons to visit and emphasising the great value for money available right now in the South West and throughout Ireland. In this difficult year for tourism, we are working hard to win business and to keep Kerry and the island of Ireland ‘top of mind’ with potential German holidaymakers.”
