German Prize-Winners Explore Leitrim’s Waterways

11 Oct 2010

A group of lucky Germans was in Leitrim at the weekend, to enjoy their prize of a fantastic cruising holiday here.  They were the winners of a special competition, organised by Tourism Ireland in Germany, which offered radio listeners there the chance to win a cruising break in Ireland’s Lakelands Region.  They kicked off their four-day break in Ballinamore, with dinner at Glenview House, before taking to the water.

When they return home, the prize-winners will report back on their experience and adventures here on the popular German radio station HR1, describing the various locations they visited and the people they met along the way.  The Tourism Ireland competition, which ran recently on the radio station, reached over 500,000 listeners each day during the month-long campaign, highlighting the relaxed and enjoyable pace of a cruising holiday, as well as the many things to see and do for German holidaymakers in this part of Ireland.

Barbara Wood, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Central Europe, said: “This Tourism Ireland radio promotion was an innovative approach for us to reach a wide audience of potential holidaymakers in Germany, putting the superb cruising and tourism product of Leitrim and the Lakelands Region in the spotlight; and allowing the prize-winners to describe passionately their experiences here to a large German radio audience certainly gives a great feeling of authenticity for potential visitors.

“Tourism Ireland has an extensive promotional programme in place for 2010 in Germany, to showcase the uniqueness of a holiday in the Lakelands and around the island of Ireland.  A range of campaigns is highlighting the tremendous value on offer as well as compelling reasons to visit.  The message here in Germany is that there has never been a better time to visit the island of Ireland.”
