Celebrity Push for Northern Ireland Tourism

17 Nov 2010

High profile figures from the worlds of entertainment, sport and food have joined Tourism Ireland for a campaign with a difference – to inspire would-be holidaymakers in the all-important Great Britain market to come and visit their favourite places in Northern Ireland.

Celebrities featuring in the campaign, which is under way right now, include TV presenters Éamonn Holmes and Zöe Salmon, golf legend Darren Clarke, celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin, as well as chef Niall McKenna who starred in BBC2’s culinary show Great British Menu earlier this year.  Whether it’s a beautiful garden, a little-known fish restaurant, a glamorous designer shop, a village with a friendly goat and an amazing beach, or the place George Best first showed his amazing talent …. these stars are helping to inspire people all over Britain to come and experience Northern Ireland for themselves.

The campaign includes a prominent display on Tourism Ireland’s website – www.discoverireland.com/gb/campaigns/celebrityni; as well as social media activity, including a feature on Tourism Ireland’s GB Facebook page, which has about 23,000 fans.  Videos of Éamonn Holmes and Zöe Salmon holidaying in Northern Ireland have been posted to YouTube; and Éamonn recently appeared on ITV’s The Alan Titchmarsh Show remembering his family holidays in Co Antrim.

Speaking about the campaign, Tourism Ireland’s Chief Executive Niall Gibbons, said: “We are delighted to have such high profile personalities involved in this campaign, endorsing Northern Ireland as a fantastic holiday destination; it is an excellent opportunity for us to raise the profile of Northern Ireland in GB.  We are telling potential British holidaymakers that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland.  We have great value fares, accommodation and eating out options and fantastic things to do and see.  We have some of the best golf in the world and top-class business tourism facilities, as well as unique culture and rich heritage that gives us stand-out.”
